Former Pakistan leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed has been roped in as Bangladesh’s spin bowling coach ahead of the series against Zimbabwe. He will continue in his role till the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. Mushtaq has a lot of coaching experience, including when he worked with England (2008-2014), West Indies (2018-19) and Pakistan (2020-22).
The Pakistan legend will play a massive role in the Bangladesh setup, given that the conditions in the West Indies and USA, where the T20 World Cup will take place, are known to aid spin. His first assignment for the Tigers will come when they host Zimbabwe for a five-match T20I series next month.
“It is a great honour for me to be a part of the Bangladesh cricket team as a spin bowling coach,” Mushtaq Ahmed said in a statement by BCB. “I am looking forward to the role and want to pass my experience on to the players because they are very coachable. I believe they are among the most dangerous teams around.”
“They can beat anyone because they have the capability, resources, and talent. I will try to instill that belief in them. I am very excited at the opportunity to work with the team.”
