In what will come as a massive blow to Bangladesh’s hopes in the T20 World Cup, fast bowler Ebadot Hossain has been ruled out of it owing to his lack of recovery from an anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained in July 2023. Ebadot was injured in a rather amusing manner, colliding with an umpire while bowling in Bangladesh’s home series against Afghanistan.
Ebadot had mentioned that he was trying hard to make himself fit for the global event scheduled to take place in the United States of America and West Indies this June, but the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s chief physician, Dr. Debashish Chowdhury confirmed to Indian publication Cricbuzz that it would be highly unlikely.
“I am hopeful that I will return before the World Cup, or else why am I working so hard? The way everything is going is good. The biggest thing is how the medical team supports me. I am doing very good rehab. I am regaining my strength. I am working on the sand field and working on strength. I am hopeful something good will happen in the future,” Ebadot had said to media persons on January 13 after he had completed a rehabilitation session at the BCB’s academy.
However, Dr Chowdhury offered a differing view. “No way Ebadot can make a comeback before the World T20. We are not even thinking about it. It does not go in that time frame. It takes eight to 12 months, but you need at least ten months. He had surgery in December, so it will be at least October when he can make a comeback. Ebadot can make a comeback a bit earlier, but certainly not in the World T20,” he said.
Bangladesh’s fast bowling reserves will suffer if Ebadot cannot come back in time to play in the World Cup. Left-arm seamer Mustafizur Rahman, enjoying fine form in the Indian Premier League, might have to take the lead for his team to guide them towards the knockout stages.
