In a brave move, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) are going to launch a mini IPL-like tournament during the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Bangladesh will not participate in this tournament. However, they will organise a mini IPL-like tournament instead.

This competition will be called the ODOMMO Bangladesh T20 Cup. It will feature three teams: Dhumketu XI, Durbar XI, and Duronto XI. Akbar Ali is the skipper of the last, whereas Litton Das and Najmul Hossain Shanto will lead Dhumketu XI and Durbar XI, respectively.

“We will be giving match fees along with other things. We are expecting to announce a good amount as prize money. All these efforts are to ensure that the tournament is competitive,” a BCB official said.

The BCB is probably going to offer players match fees and awards worth a combined 2.5 crore taka (Rs. 1.87 crore). This tournament will also see the usage of the impact player rule, which became immensely popular after its introduction in the IPL.

The BCB have also announced that they will do away with A+ contracts starting this year. These contracts were earlier offered to regular players in all three formats for the country. Yet, it is hard to find such players in the nation these days. Hence, the board’s decision makes financial sense.

“We are not having any A+ category in the central contract this year. None of our cricketers are currently playing across all three formats regularly. And that was one of the prerequisites to get into the A+ bracket of the central contract. We have a list of 27 cricketers and now wait for the final approval of the board,” a source confirmed.

Here is the list of probable players who may get Bangladesh’s central contracts this year:

Najmul Hossain Shanto, Litton Kumar Das, Taskin Ahmed, Mehedi Hasan Miraz, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mominul Haque, Taijul Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Towhid Hridoy, Hasan Mahmud, Nahid Rana, Shadman Islam, Soumya Sarkar, Jaker Ali Anik, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Shoriful Islam, Rishad Hossain, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Mahedi Hasan, Nasum Ahmed, Khaled Ahmed, Shamim Hossain Patwary, Parvez Hossain Emon, Saif Hasan, Nayeem Hasan, Tanvir Islam and Hasan Murad.
