The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced they will play a two-match Test series against Zimbabwe in April 2025. The two teams had last met each other in a Test on Bangladeshi soil in 2020. Bangladesh beat Zimbabwe by a comfortable margin of an innings and 106 runs.
The first Test of the upcoming series will be played at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on 20 April. In contrast, the second will commence on 28 April at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram. The hosts will be keen on showcasing their dominance to their opponents and effecting a whitewash over them.
The Bangla Tigers are known for their domineering performances at home. They have improved tremendously under the leadership of Najmul Hossain Shanto. They have been rocked by the recent retirement of veteran batter Mahmudullah. However, Bangladesh will be the favourites to win this series at home against Zimbabwe. They know these conditions exceptionally well. They also have players who can always deliver for them.
The 2-0 series can gauge Bangladesh’s improvement in Test cricket win they effected over their arch-rivals Pakistan away from home in 2024. Although they were consequently beaten by giants India, this series sweep over Pakistan on foreign soil gave the Tigers confidence to compete against top teams. They hope to bring the same confidence in this series against Zimbabwe.
Bangladesh last met the African nation in a Test series in July 2021. Yet, their last game at home was a year earlier. Back then, Bangladesh beat Zimbabwe by 200 runs in Harare. Shanto’s men hope to continue this historic dominance over the Africans in this series. Recently, Bangladesh participated in the ICC Champions Trophy. However, they were knocked out of the group stage after consecutive losses to India and New Zealand and a no-result against Pakistan.
