The greatest part of Bangladesh’s celebrations after beating Sri Lanka in the third ODI by four wickets was when Mushfiqur Rahim brought out his helmet. He tried to mimic Angelo Mathews’ timed-out dismissal in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.
This was in retaliation to what the Lankans had done after beating Bangladesh in the T20 series that preceded the ODI one. The hosts were the better side in the third ODI played at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram. They rightfully emerged as the winners by the end of the evening.
Bangladesh clinched the 2-1 series with their exceptional performance by winning the first and third ODIs. Sri Lanka choosed to bat first. They found it challenging to get their innings going, due to the top-quality Bangladesh seam attack. Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, and Mustafizur Rahman were in top form. They wreaked havoc on the Lankan batting line-up. Despite the struggle, Janith Liyanage’s century for his team was commendable.
Responding to Sri Lanka’s total of 236, Bangladesh displayed their batting prowess and quickly chased down the runs. It instilled confidence in their fans. Despite the early dismissal of Anamul Haque Bijoy, Tanzid Hasan, Towhid Hridoy, Rishad Hossain, and Mushfiqur Rahim ensured a smooth run chase for the home team. Lahiru Kumara’s impressive bowling figures of 4-48 were not enough to pose a threat to the Bangladesh side.
