Sri Lanka, showcasing their skill and quality, won against Bangladesh in the third and final T20I of the three-match series. Like the first two, this game was played at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet, Bangladesh.
It was a game of individual brilliance for Sri Lanka. Opener-wicketkeeper Kusal Medis’ 86 and the late cameos by former captains Angelo Mathews and Dasun Shanaka lead them to a decent total of 174-7 in the twenty overs.
When Bangladesh came out to bat, they appeared as if they could chase down the runs quite comfortably. Indeed, they backed themselves to the hilt and tried to get underway with a bang. However, none of their top-order batters could stand up to the challenges set to them by the Lankan bowlers. They crumbled and did not seem to be in a position where they could chase these runs down.
Rishad Hossain, coming in at number eight, played a brilliant late-order knock to score 53, but his innings came a little too late for the hosts. Sri Lanka, by then, had been able to rout the Bangladeshis and pick up their wickets by the bunch. Despite Rishad’s courageous knock, Bangladesh were beaten by Sri Lanka by 28 runs, taking the series with them 2-1. While Lanka won the first and last T20Is, Bangladesh won the second.
