2025 held a lot of ups and downs for the Bangladesh cricket team. This was the year in which a lot of upheaval was seen, especially after wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das was appointed as captain until the T20 World Cup, slated to be held in the Indian subcontinent next year. In Test cricket, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto was quite successful, scoring 532 runs from six matches at an average of 59.11, including three centuries.
In this article, we will discuss some of Bangladesh’s memorable moments throughout the year:
Defeating Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka
A memorable moment for Litton Das’ men came in their three-match T20I series in Sri Lanka in July, in which they defeated their hosts 2-1. Sri Lanka won the first match by a whopping margin of seven wickets. But the Bangla Tigers came back strongly to pocket the second and third games by even bigger margins of 83 runs and 8 wickets, respectively. Interestingly, captain Das was the player of the series with 114 runs. Mahedi Hasan was the most successful bowler in the third game with figures of 4-11.
Victory over Pakistan at Home
Another victory that tasted extremely sweet to Bangladesh was their 2-1 T20I series win over Pakistan at home in July. The Tigers were in fine form and hit the ground running, winning the first two games by 7 wickets and 8 runs, respectively. Parvez Hossain Emon was adjudged the player of the match for the first T20I owing to his unbeaten 59 off just 36 deliveries. However, the Shaheens played for pride and won the final match in Mirpur by 74 runs.
Moderately successful Asia Cup Campaign
Bangladesh had a decent Asia Cup campaign in September this year, making it to the Super Four stage on the back of fine performances in the group matches. They defeated Hong Kong and Afghanistan in the preliminary rounds. However, they were humbled by India and Pakistan in the Super Fours and had to return home. A big positive was the way in which they beat their southern neighbours, Sri Lanka, by four wickets in Dubai in the Super Fours.
Overcoming Afghanistan away from Home
In October, Bangladesh put up another excellent showing when they travelled to the United Arab Emirates to play Afghanistan and defeated the latter in a three-match T20I series. The Tigers were the superior side by a large margin as they defeated Afghanistan in all three games and whitewashed the series 3-0. All three victories came while chasing, and in quite comfortable positions, since they registered wins by 4, 2 and 6 wickets respectively. Post this, however, Bangladesh suffered from a low as they lost a three-match ODI series 0-3 to the Afghans.
Ending the Year with Wins over Ireland
Admitted that Ireland were minnows, especially in red-ball cricket, but the Bangla Tigers made sure that they were not taken for granted. They defeated their opponents in the two-Test series 2-0 but somehow suffered a minor hiccup by losing the first T20I that followed. Das’ men were quick to regroup and win the next two matches to seal the series and end the year on a high. Mahedi Hasan was adjudged as the player of the series with four wickets.
